It provides a glimpse of what TikTok could eventually become, as Douyin started selling merchandise in 2017 and now operates a growing e-commerce operation where hundreds of millions of users shop on a daily basis.īyteDance's expansion comes as China's financial regulators are tightening oversight over financial technology firms, particularly companies such as Ant Group.Ĭhina's third-party payment sector is dominated by Alipay and WeChat Pay, with the former taking 55.39% of the total market in the second quarter of last year, according to market researcher Analysys. Tencent’s practice, it said, ran afoul of the Anti-Monopoly Law’s provision of forbidding. The company, which denies the allegation, has been in talks for months with Walmart Inc and Oracle Corp to shift such assets into a new entity.ĭouyin is the main revenue generator for ByteDance. The ByteDance board move comes after the company on Tuesday announced a major organisational reshuffle to create six business units. The law limits the conditions under which companies can gather personal information and sets rules for how it is used. The timing of the withdrawal coincided with China’s new data protection law coming into effect on Monday. The move came shortly after Ma delivered a speech criticising Chinese financial regulators.įoreign tech firms are also retreating from China, with Yahoo announcing this week that it was was quitting the country because of the “increasingly challenging business and legal environment in China”. Ma has limited his public appearances since the planned float of his online finance platform, Ant Group, was blocked by President Xi Jinping last year. Jack Ma, Alibaba’s co-founder, has been a high-profile victim of the crackdown, only recently venturing outside China to go on holiday in Spain. Tencent, a social media, gaming and finance group, and Alibaba, an online shopping giant, have both pledged multibillion pound sums to help achieve the “common prosperity” of the nation. The founder of the e-commerce company Pinduoduo, Huang Zheng, stepped down as chair this year, having earlier relinquished his chief executive title.Īccording to analysts, the Chinese government has become increasingly concerned about the power and influence that has been amassed by wealthy tech entrepreneurs, with many of them multibillionaires. Turf Wars Bytedance unveils Douyin mobile payment tool to rival Alipay, WeChat by Wei Sheng (Image credit: Douyin) TikTok’s Chinese owner has rolled out an e-wallet feature on its Douyin video-sharing app, a move that could pose a significant threat to the Alipay and WeChat duopoly in China’s mobile payment sector. Last week, the short-video apps owner Kuaishou said its co-founder, Su Hua, had stepped down as chief executive. It also owns Douyin, a video platform for its domestic market, and other interests that span education, gaming and business software.Ī number of founders at some of China’s most well-known tech companies have in recent months given up overseeing daily operations amid a government clampdown on the tech sector. At the time, Zhang said he was leaving the role because he lacked managerial skills and preferred “reading and daydreaming” to running the tech group.īyteDance is one of Chinese tech’s biggest global success stories thanks to TikTok, the short-video platform that has amassed more than 1 billion users worldwide and has become a competitive threat to rival US tech firms such as Facebook, Snapchat and Google-owned YouTube.īyteDance was valued at $140bn (£102bn) in a fundraising round last year. In May, the company had said he would move to a “key strategy” position at the end of the year. It was also unclear whether there had been any changes to Zhang’s control of ByteDance, where he owns 50% of the voting rights. Reuters reported that ByteDance’s new chief executive, co-founder Liang Rubo, has taken over as chair of the company’s five-person board.

Polymorph vs dom of movement 5e11/14/2023 So CR 1/8 – CR:4 = +2 Proficiency, CR: 5-6 = +3 ProficiencyĪt low levels certainly Moon Druid Wildshape is utterly terrifying.īeing able to turn into a CR 1 creature at level 2 is viewed as. Remember the proficiency modifier for monsters is based on CR, and is the same progression as players. So I read it as “you gain proficiency in perception if you don't have so already, but use your WIS modifier rather than the beasts, but use the beast's proficiency modifier.” Perception maybe the one problematic one as Druids probably have a higher WIS than the beast they turn into, but the beast may have proficiency with perception when the druid doesn't. I vaguely expected at least a few to have Acrobatics, but apparently not. in INT and WIS saving throws anyhow.Īnd a quick skim of the Beasts in the monster manual:ġ) No beast I can find has any saving throw proficiency.Ģ) Beasts only ever have athletics, stealth and perception skill proficiencies, and even then only the ape and giant ape have athletics proficiency. But not a huge issue since Druids get prof. The wording with skill and saving throw proficiencies is a bit odd. It's a bit confusing but essentially you get the entire stat block of the beast you turn into. I'm not sure if they've struck the right balance in the final set of rules or not. I actually dropped that character and switched to a Wizard instead. Sadly, the Druid was revised with the last playtest rules, and my cool character was nerfed. They had Wildshape abilities are low level that were just as effective as any other level appropriate power. In one of the early 5e Playtests, I finally got my wish. In prior editions, I never really tried this because I was frustrated by how long it took to actually get Wildshape abilities. I'd choose spells that are more utility focused. I've always loved the idea of playing a Druid that uses Wildshape as its primary tactic for combat. If you take on the form of a hydra, do you get 5 attacks? Can you take an undead form and get life drain ability? Do you get magical or psionic abilities? What counts as being a "creature"? Polymorph isn't as clear are prior editions were to explain what abilities you get from the assumed form. Of course, you can use the spell less often than you can use the Wildshape ability. He could be a Green Slaad (AC 16, HP 127, +7 to hit. The description for Polymorph says you get all of the assumed forms game stats, without mentioning the exception for INT, WIS, CHA, skill and Saves. If he used the Polymorph spell instead, he'd be able to choose any creature, not just a beast. Maybe Wildshape is actually better at low levels than it is at mid to high levels? Though his "normal form" stats would be lower, and so the wildshape is better by comparison. If he was circle of the Moon, but a lower level, he could still be a tiger (CR1). Not all that different from the Boar really. Say a tiger (AC 12, HP 37, +5 to hit, d10+3 damage). If he was Circle of The Land, he'd be limited to a CR 1 beast. Is there one with better AC? If it gets Multiple attacks, do you get them? Maybe there is a better 2 CR beast to choose. On the other hand that is a significant drop in AC. And his ability to damage the enemy has gone up some. 42 temporary hit points is a pretty good benefit. I'm trying to figure out if Wildshape is worth it. The first 2 points forces him to lose his boar form, and the excess 8 points are deducted from the HP he had before he changed form. The 42 HP he gets from his Giant Boar form are effectively "temporary hit points" as I read it.Īfter several rounds of combat in Boar form, he's down to 2 hit points, and he takes 10 points of damage. That gives him AC 12 (worse than his human form), +5 to-hit (same as human form), and 2d6+3 damage (better than normal). Per the rules, he gets all game stats from the Boar, except INT, WIS, CHA, skill bonuses, and saving throw bonuses. (Level 8, divided by 3, rounded down.) He chooses Giant Boar. Circle of the Moon allows him to do that, and it lets him assume the form a any "beast" up to 2 CR. In the second round, he uses a bonus action to take Wildshape. He takes 9 points of damage in the surprise round (Now he's at HP 36). His party is ambushed by a group of Orcs. With his Scimitar he does something like d6+2 damage. His to-hit bonus is around +5 (3 for proficiency, 2 for ability modifier. He has hide armor and a wooden shield, with a dex of 14. I want to see if I understand how Wildshape and Polymorph work in 5e. Online spider solitaire with other players11/14/2023 When no open cards can be moved, pick a card from the closed deck of extra cards.Open cards can be moved one below another–a card can be moved below a card with one rank more and any color (ideally move below the same suit card).One-suit spider solitaire uses 104 cards of spades and two-suit spider solitaire uses 104 cards including spades and hearts. The remaining cards are kept aside in a face-down deck. The next six columns get one face-up card each and then the first four columns also get a face-up card each. Four columns on the left get an extra facedown card each. Ten columns of 4 face down cards each are dealt. Difficulty of the game rises with a higher number of suits and decks in the game. There are different levels of difficulty in Spider Solitaire. This is another popular version of solitaire. The rules of this game have been explained in the sections above. This is the version of the game that originally came with Windows. This is the most common form of this game, often known as just Solitaire. Here are some types of Solitaire cards games that are available online: 1. If no more moves can be made from the piles of the deck of cards, then the game is lost. The top card of a foundation pile can be moved back to one of the seven piles below, if needed.More consecutive cards can be added below the King when required. When one of the seven piles becomes empty, only a King card can be placed into the open space first. While moving cards to the seven piles, a card can be placed below a card with one higher rank and a different color only.Once all the deck cards are revealed, the pile of revealed cards is flipped to make a face-down deck again. If a card revealed can’t be moved to any place, the next card is revealed on top of it. The card that is revealed can be added to the seven piles (below a card of higher rank and different color) or added to the foundation piles, wherever possible. From the deck: The last way of moving cards is to reveal one card at a time from the deck of leftover 24 cards (In some games, three cards are flipped open from the deck, and the third card can be moved first and then the ones below that).Moving cards from the seven decks to the foundation piles: As the objective of the game is to complete each foundation pile, you can move cards from the seven decks to place cards in the foundation piles.Note: When a face-up card is moved from a pile, the next face-down card in that pile is flipped to make the next face-up card in that pile you can place 6 of hearts under 7 of clubs. Moving cards among the seven decks: You can move face-up cards among the seven piles, placing a smaller rank card below a card with one rank higher and with a different color. The cards can move in the game in three ways: To be able to complete the four suits of cards, you have to move some cards around. place 2 of hearts on Ace of hearts, 2 of clubs on Ace of clubs, 3 of clubs on 2 of clubs and so on, until you have each suit completed. You then have to complete each suit by placing consecutive cards on top of the aces, e.g. You start the foundation by placing aces of each suit in four separate places/slots above the seven decks. To win the game of solitaire, you have to create foundation piles of each suit. These slots are used to create the foundation piles. There are four imaginary empty slots above the seven decks. The remaining 24 cards are placed face-down in a deck separate from the seven cards. Basically, the number of cards in each pile increases from left to right. The dealing continues thus, until all the seven decks have one face-up card on top. The third round of dealing begins with a face-up card on the third pile and face-down cards from fourth deck onwards. The second round begins with the second pile receiving a face up card, and the next five receiving face down cards. In the first round of dealing, the first and the left-most card is dealt face up, the next six are dealt face down. In Solitaire, seven piles of cards are dealt. Itrace toric lens alignment11/14/2023 George Waring IV, MD, FACS, founder and medical director of the Waring Vision Institute in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, believes it’s essential to base your toric lens choice on at least two measurements. Corneal topography is essential, especially in patients who’ve had previous corneal refractive surgery.” “However, relying on something like keratometry alone is just not sufficient. “Keratometry is the classic way of measuring astigmatism, and today most of us calculate lens power using advanced instruments like the IOLMaster or Lenstar that do take keratometry into account,” he says. Chu notes that just doing keratometry isn’t sufficient. “When thinking about implanting a toric IOL, surgeons need to shift from looking at the astigmatism in the patient’s refraction to seeing what topography reveals.”ĭr. “That not only defines the magnitude of corneal astigmatism on the anterior corneal surface, it also helps define the type of astigmatism-regular or irregular,” he says. Ralph Chu, MD, founder and medical director of Chu Vision Institute in Bloomington, Minnesota, and adjunct associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota, says the most critical measurement when implanting a toric lens is topography. What should I use to determine toric power and orientation? With that in mind, several surgeons with extensive experience implanting toric IOLs answer 11 key questions to help make sure you end up with happy toric IOL patients.ġ. Nevertheless, they do require making some extra effort and managing the occasional pitfall. A lthough toric intraocular lenses are considered a “premium” option-one that can have a profound impact on a patient’s vision-they involve far fewer potential visual tradeoffs than premium options such as multifocal IOLs. Pda pathological demand avoidance syndrome11/14/2023 Newson et al.’s ( 2003) findings may partly reflect a “collider bias” (Cole et al., 2010 O’Nions & Eaton, 2020): an unintuitive bias whereby the relationship between two factors is distorted when both factors independently increase the chances of being included in a research study or clinical cohort (they “collide”). Inspection of the test information function suggests that the EDA-8 may be a useful tool to identify children on the autism spectrum who show an extreme response to demands, as a starting point for more in-depth assessment. EDA-8 scores were not related to parental reports of ASD severity. 90) and convergent and divergent validity with other measures (some of which were only available for a subsample of 233 respondents). The “EDA-8” showed good internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha =. PCA and IRT analyses identified eight items that are discriminating indices of EDA traits, and behave similarly with respect to quantifying EDA irrespective of child age, gender, reported academic level, or reported independence in daily living activities. The aim of this study was to refine the EDA-Q using principal components analysis (PCA) and item response theory (IRT) analysis on parent/caregiver-report data from 334 children with ASD aged 5–17 years. Previously, the Extreme Demand Avoidance Questionnaire (EDA-Q) was developed to quantify resemblance to clinical accounts of PDA from caregiver reports. Pressure to comply can lead to escalation in emotional reactivity and behavior that challenges. Demands often trigger avoidance behavior (e.g., distraction, excuses, withdrawal into role play). Extreme/“pathological” demand avoidance (PDA) describes a presentation found in some children on the autism spectrum, characterized by obsessive resistance to everyday demands and requests. Nationwide biweekly mortgage calculator11/14/2023 Navigating the intricate calculations behind mortgage payments can be a complicated task, though much easier still compared to the use of amortization tables in the 1970s. This enables you to calculate your estimated monthly mortgage payment alongside a corresponding amortization schedule. We have different types of calculators available, but a good place to start is with nesto’s mortgage payment calculator. One of the most useful tools you’ll find is nesto’s online mortgage calculators. We encourage you to seek personalized advice from qualified professionals regarding all personal finance issues. As a homebuyer, many valuable resources are available to help you make informed decisions throughout the homebuying process. All examples are hypothetical and are for illustrative purposes. We can not and do not guarantee their applicability or accuracy in regards to your individual circumstances. Information and interactive calculators are made available to you as self-help tools for your independent use and are not intended to provide investment advice. The most common amortizations for mortgages are 15 years and 30 years. Mortgage Amortization: The number of years over witch you would repay the loan entered if you made your normal monthly payment. Interest Rate: The interest rate on the mortgage loan entered. Mortgage Amount: The total amount for mortgage loan entered Just like the accelerated bi-weekly payments, you are in effect paying an additional monthly payment each year. The accelerated weekly payment is calculated by dividing your monthly payment by four. The effect can save you thousands in interest and take years off of your mortgage. This additional amount accelerates your loan payoff by going directly against your loan's principal. Since you pay 26 bi-weekly payments, by the end of a year you have paid the equivalent of one extra monthly payment. Nationwide Biweekly Administration calculates an accelerated bi-weekly mortgage payment, for example, by taking your normal monthly payment and dividing it by two. The extra funds are directed 100% to the principal of the loan eliminating thousands of dollars in interest charges, cutting years off the loan and dramatically increasing your home equity.ĭefinitions of the Loan Calculator: Accelerated weekly and bi-weekly payments The interest minimizer through Nationwide Biweekly Administration debits your bi-weekly amount from your checking or savings account then remits payments bi-weekly or makes your monthly loan payment when it's due.īecause there are 52 weeks in a year, that adds up to 26 bi-weekly debits which equals 13 monthly payments over the course of a year. In addition, it will tell you how much interest you'll save over the life of your loan by paying your mortgage biweekly instead of monthly. Biweekly and Weekly mortgage calculators are very simple tools that allow you to see the true savings or projected savings that you would receive. The Loan calculator through Nationwide Biweekly Administration can help you figure out exactly how a biweekly program works for you and how much exactly you would save by enrolling in a program such as the Interest Minimizer. "The Loan Calculator is designed to let you approximate your savings with the Interest Minimizer Program", says Dan Lipsky, founder of Nationwide Biweekly Administration in Xenia, Ohio. Lattice semiconductor competitions11/14/2023 Metal-free efficient photocatalyst for stable visible water splitting via a two-electron pathway. The solar-to-hydrogen efficiency is 1.31%. We report an internal quantum efficiency of 114% at 350 nm for photocatalytic hydrogen production, demonstrating the utilization of MEG effects. We achieve a tunable energy band structure through quantum effects in CdTe and doping engineering of V-In 2S 3, which induces a 14-fold enhancement in the CdTe/V-In 2S 3 interfacial built-in electric field intensity relative to pristine CdTe/V-In 2S 3. Here we show that a CdTe quantum dot/vanadium-doped indium sulphide (CdTe/V-In 2S 3) photocatalyst has a built-in electric field and cascade energy band structure sufficient to effectively extract excitons and separate carriers, allowing MEG to be exploited for hydrogen production. Moreover, many photocatalytic systems for overall water splitting suffer from poor charge carrier separation. However, demonstrations of the effect are still scarce in photocatalytic hydrogen production. It does not store any personal data.Multiple exciton generation (MEG), where two or more electron–hole pairs are produced from the absorption of one high-energy photon, could increase the efficiency of light absorbing devices.
